TCU National President Artie Maratea issued the following statement following the passing of TTD President Larry Willis:
The entire TCU family is in mourning today as we remember our brother and leader Larry Willis, President of the Transportation Trades Department (TTD), AFL-CIO.
Larry was a consummate leader and mentor to everyone in the labor movement, and he’s had an incredible impact on our members’ lives throughout his career. We offer our hearts, thoughts and prayers to his family during this tragic time.
During my brief time as President, Larry has been an incredible ally and friend, helping me to broaden my personal understanding of transportation labor policies that help working people. That pales in comparison to the years of service he provided to all of our members, be it protecting and defending Railroad Retirement, securing Amtrak funding, or being a voice for all transportation workers on Capitol Hill.
Larry was a lion in labor. He was a friend to me, to President Scardelletti, to our Legislative team, and to all working people. He will be dearly missed. Rest in Peace, Brother.
