Meet our Organizing Team:
Sal Rodriguez, TCU Executive Director of Organizing, is a 2nd generation Railroader. In 1979, his father, who worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad (SPRR), advised Sal about a program called Transportation Communication Union (TCU) Manpower Training (now known as the TCU/IAM Advanced Training Program). He enrolled in the program in 1979 and successfully graduated from TCU’s Manpower Training Program in 1980, where he got not only one but two great jobs.
Sal’s first job was with the UPRR in 1980; however, shortly after his hire, he was furloughed. He then reached out to the TCU Manpower Program for assistance. They then pointed him to his second job with Amtrak in 1984, where he stayed until 2022.
During his railroad career of over 44 years, Sal has held several positions within TCU. He began with being elected as Local Chairman, where he was Local Chairman of Local Lodge 2511 for over 20 years.
In 2017, Sal was appointed Assistant Nation Representative (ANR) and held that position for two years. In 2019, he was appointed National Representative (NR), and in 2023, TCU National President Maratea appointed Sal as Executive Director/Organizing Director (ED/OD).
In 2023, Drew Maratea joined TCU/IAM as TCU’s Organizing Coordinator.
Before his time at TCU, Drew worked as a Hydrocarbon Extraction Technician in the marijuana industry in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This experience helps Drew understand the challenges and opportunities that are emerging in new industries all across the country.
