TTD Asks the Senate to Oppose the Isakson Resolution of Disapproval

The Transportation Trades Department of the AFL/CIO sent a letter to every Senator requesting them to vote no on the resolution of disapproval for the NMB voting rule change, introduced by Senator Isakson (R-GA).

The letter states, “On behalf of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), I urge you to vote against Senator Isakson’s resolution of disapproval of the National Mediation Board’s new rule that will allow a majority of ballots cast to determine union representation. The NMB’s new rule is consistent with statute, was considered in an open and transparent process, and makes union election procedures for airline and rail workers fairer and more consistent with democratic norms.”

“Senators voting for this resolution are endorsing the idea that uncast votes should be counted as a no vote,” said TCU International President Bob Scardelletti. “These men will stop at nothing to take away the rights of the middle class worker. I say that, in the Senate elections in their state, a person who does not vote should be counted as a vote against them. That would give them a taste of their own medicine.”
