TCU/IAM members on New Jersey Transit have overwhelmingly ratified new contracts with New Jersey Transit, with yes votes ranging from 90% to 94%.
Voter turnout was high in all three TCU/IAM crafts – ARASA, Carmen and Clerical.
The successful vote follows similar yes votes by every union that has completed ratification – Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way (BMWED), International Association of Machinists (IAM), International Brotherhood of Boilermakers (IBB), International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), SMART-Mechanical, and SMART-Yardmasters. The other unions in the Coalition have not completed their ratification processes yet.
“These ratification results resoundingly affirm the great work our negotiators did on New Jersey Transit, beating back radical concessionary demands from the state and winding up with an outstanding agreement with excellent wage gains,” said National President Robert Scardelletti. “We are very proud of the leadership demonstrated by our involved TCU/IAM representatives – National Vice President/Special Assistant to the President Joel Parker, who was lead negotiator for all the unions in the Coalition; National Vice President Arthur Maratea, who led the TCU delegation; Carmen Division Vice President Donald Grissom and Local Chairman Jason McMahon; ARASA National Representative Michael Miller and General Chairman Jason Tiller; and Clerical National Representative William DeCarlo and Local Chairman Anthony Stevens.”
President Scardelletti added, “The resolve and support of the entire NJT membership was clearly the difference in convincing NJT to reach a fair contract just 36 hours before a strike that would have been devastating to the entire region.”
