TCU/IAM Carman Division Sends Comments to the FRA Opposing the BNSF Waiver for Trains Originating at Powder River Basin Coal Mines
The BNSF Railroad Company (BNSF) seeks a waiver of compliance to expand the existing waiver that granted relief from maximum mileage and inspection requirements. The waiver extended haul trains, to over 1,500 miles for certain trains to its July 13, 2012, petition. These trains originate at various Powder River Basin coal mines and terminate at the following locations: Isugen, NE; Becker, MN; Breckenridge, MN; Dilworth, MN; Harrington, TX; and Holcomb, KS. The Contractors for BNSF’s coal deliveries are Utility Companies, Oil and Tank Car Companies, and Intermodal Companies (Contractors).
The Brotherhood Railway Carmen Division TCU/IAM (BRC) submitted comments requesting that the FRA deny the requested relief.

TCU/IAM Carman Division Sends Comments to the FRA Opposing the BNSF Waiver for Trains Originating at Bakken Oil Refineries
The Brotherhood of Railway Carmen Division TCU/IAM (BRC) sent comments to the FRA requesting that they deny the request of BNSF for certain Bakken-oil trains that originate at refineries in North Dakota. These trains fall short of major inspection terminals under the 1,000-mile inspection requirements. The trains are stopping short of terminals that have qualified mechanical inspectors (QMI), the train crews are conducting the Class 1A inspections, and then the trains are continuing on into the terminals.
