The first TCU/IAM TSD Class to complete the Hazmat Class taught by the IAM.
Washington, D.C. April 15, 2025 – For the first time in the TCU/IAM Advanced Transportation Training Program (TSD) history, students completed a full 40-hour hazardous materials (hazmat) training on Friday, April 11, leading to industry-recognized certification taught by the IAM. The initiative launched at the Potomac location will expand to all seven TSD centers nationwide.
This milestone program marks a significant advancement in career readiness for TSD students. Upon completion, graduates will hold a certification that is a valuable addition to their resumes and aligns directly with qualifications highly sought after in the transportation industry. As a result, TSD students will be better positioned to compete for roles in an increasingly specialized and safety-focused job market.

TCU and IAM officers and staff visited the Potomac Center to celebrate the students’ accomplishments, hear their experiences firsthand, and ensure the training continues to make a real difference in their career journey.
Thanks to generous grant funding from IAM CREST, the hazmat certification program is being offered at no cost to students in the TCU/IAM TSD program. Special thanks go to IAM CREST, President Michael Oathout, and trainer Barry Eveland, whose partnership and dedication helped bring this opportunity to life.
“TCU/IAM is excited about this program and committed to providing valuable educational opportunities that prepare our students for successful careers,” said TCU/IAM National Vice President Nick Peluso, who oversees the TCU/IAM TSD Program, “we will continue seeking initiatives that enhance their readiness and ensure all students are equipped for the industry.”
With safety, skills, and success at the forefront, the TSD program continues evolving, offering students the tools they need to thrive in the transportation industry.
